The best photo tributes are made up of beautiful memories played alongside great music. A large part of the work in creating a photo tribute sits with family and friends to find, sort, and select the best photos to share. Collecting a lifetime of memories can feel overwhelming, but the process is easier when given the right tools.
Good Tributes makes the collecting and sorting of photos simple, as you can invite people to add their photos via the app or website, and then select the appropriate ones to use in the final tribute. We take care of the rest and ensure you receive a beautiful and professional photo tribute.
Places to find photos:
Older printed photos might be in albums, bookshelves, or even on the fridge, and they likely will be printed in many different formats, shapes, and sizes.
It's helpful to consider who knew them at different points in their life and request photos from them—you may be surprised or even learn something new about their life.
Some suggestions on people who could help are: siblings for baby and childhood photos, friends from high school or university, children and grandchildren, partners, friends at home or abroad, colleagues, sports teammates, or people they were close with later in life.
More recent photos may be on your loved one's own phone, and in others' phone galleries. Our app is a quick way for people to contribute photos without emailing and sorting through large attachments.
When gathering photos, it can be a great opportunity to jot down some notes to help the person writing the eulogy: places travelled, family traditions, memorable habits, or interests. As the saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words, and having the privilege of reviewing the photos can be a great help for other parts of the service.
Scanning, Editing & Cropping:
Many old photos are printed and not yet in a digital format. There are many ways to upload these into the Good Tributes software, including but not limited to:
The Good Tributes | euulo app - We have an integrated scanner that automatically crops and tones your photos to be submitted for a tribute. This is available on the App Store and is accessed with the username and password provided when you're invited to contribute photos.
It's amazing what a smartphone can do, and a lot of the functionality you will need to crop, edit, or tone photos can be done directly on your phone. This is helpful for both recent photos stored in your gallery or if you've taken a photo of an old photo.
Google Photo Scan is an amazing app you can download for free to digitise old photos. It takes multiple images and then stitches them together with AI to reduce any flare and distortion. You can then save these photos to your phone gallery, but please be aware they will be saved with a white border and Google logo, which you may want to crop off for your tribute.
If you're lucky enough to have access to a scanner at home, that is a great way to digitise old photos. Make sure you scan each photo individually if you're loading them straight into the Good Tributes software, and you can crop and rotate them in there if needed.
Got old slides or negatives? There is an app for that too! Slide Scan is another Google app that helps you to digitise old slides and negatives into photos for your tribute.
Music?
Music selection—what would be suitable for one person is not the same for another. Choose something that will reflect their personality and the tone of the service. (Read our blog on music)
We ask for you to list three songs, and we will use what is needed to create a perfectly timed tribute. Working out this timing on some software can quickly become tricky, so in Good Tributes, we will take care of it for you.
Good Tributes simply asks for you to list the name and artist of the song(s) you would like to include on a tab in our software, and we will take care of the rest. If you'd like to estimate the amount of music we will require, use an average of 7–8 seconds per photo.
If you'd like to post your tribute to social media, ensure you have the permission of all people who have contributed and are featured in the photographs included. You will also need to use royalty-free music, and there are many options available on websites such as Soundstripe and Pixabay. Some of these songs may require attribution if you are posting in the public domain.
Creating a photo tribute is a heartfelt way to celebrate a loved one’s life. With the right tools and a little guidance, you can craft a meaningful tribute that honours their memory beautifully. Whether you're selecting photos, editing, or choosing the perfect music, Good Tributes is here to make the process easier, so you can focus on what truly matters.
